It's great that your child wants to get involved — we are always happy to welcome new members to our community! Attending a coding club (Dojo) will give your child the opportunity to learn how to code and develop websites, apps, programs, games, and much more. Dojos are sociable places where young people learn new skills in a fun and informal environment.
There are Dojos all over the world. In order to find your nearest Dojo, do the following:
- Click 'Attend a Dojo' from the options bar on the CoderDojo website. You can then search for nearby Dojos by typing in the name of your town or region.
- A list and map of Dojos in the area will appear. Select a Dojo to view its profile page with details such as dates, times, and upcoming events.
- If you have any questions about getting involved, email the Dojo champion using the address provided in the left column of the Dojo's profile page.
- Once you have decided on a local Dojo that suits you, you can click the 'Join' button on the Dojo's page. You will then be prompted to register an account on our community platform, Zen. By joining a Dojo, you will be notified of its upcoming events.
Some Dojos use platforms other than Zen to manage their event ticketing, so don't be discouraged if you see 'No Listed Events' on a Dojo page! This may just mean that they are using an alternative platform to advertise and manage tickets. It is always a good idea to check a Dojo’s website, Facebook, or Twitter for news and upcoming events.
If there is no Dojo near you, why not consider starting a Dojo? You don’t need to be skilled in coding or computing to do this, and the team at the CoderDojo Foundation will guide you through the process. Find more information about starting a Dojo here.
