Occasionally we receive enquiries regarding coding classes for adults. We applaud anyone who is interested in learning to code, and it’s never too late to start learning! The CoderDojo movement, however, is focused on creating opportunities for young people aged 7–17.
While we do not run any coding classes for adults, we do have a wealth of free comprehensive learning resources on our website, including basic introductions to Scratch, Python, and JavaScript among others. Our resources build on one another so that learners work through them sequentially to move past beginner level. Many non-techie champions and mentors in our community familiarise themselves with our introductory resources and then apply this knowledge to their Dojo sessions. We recommend starting off with Scratch, which is a fun visual programming language. You'd be surprised what you can pick up after a few short exercises! You can find all of our online resources, including coding exercises, on the resources section of the CoderDojo website here.
We also recommend the learning resources of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Moreover, there are plenty of other sites out there where adults can learn to code, such as Codecademy or Khan Academy. Once you have taught yourself the basics, you could think about volunteering to share your knowledge at your local Dojo, which you can find here.
